Nostalgia does not always have to point backward.
Sometimes I miss a future we have not reached yet.
This piece starts with a Manchester United jacket from another era, then uses it to look at the world we live in now. On the chest, a surveillance pigeon casually sits above the Nike swoosh, watching everything. Beneath it, a computer is placed on a pedestal inside an almost Windows XP kind of paradise. Blue skies, green land, technology existing peacefully with everything around it. A little portrait of the future I still want to believe in.
Then you turn the jacket around.
The computer has become enormous. The person has become small. What was supposed to be a tool now feels like the entire environment.
That contrast is the piece.
The past gives us the jacket. The present gives us something to laugh at and worry about. The future is the part we are still allowed to imagine differently.
Maybe anemoia can be longing for that too.
